Millom Ironworks LNR
Millom was home to one of the world’s largest haematite mines and ironworks until the 1960’s. Since its closure and demolition the site of the ironworks has been colonised by natterjack toads, skylarks, orchids and yellow-wort. The site was declared as a Local Nature Reserve in 2002.
In 2006 we were commissioned by Cumbria County Council to review the management of the LNR and draw up a management plan for the reserve.
We were able to draw up a vision of what the reserve would be like in the future and prioritise objectives for reserve management based and identify the management requirements to meet these objectives.
