Wild Ennerdale
Between 2002 and 2004 Rigby Jerram Ecological Consultants conducted a survey of NVC communities of the Ennerdale valley in Cumbria for the Forestry Commission, English Nature and the National Trust as part of the Wild Ennerdale project. The reports on this survey can be viewed or downloaded from the Wild Ennerdale website, as can a simplified vegetation map. The survey identified 71 different NVC communities and sub-communities in the valley and also mapped the woodland communities present within the conifer plantations.
Wild Ennerdale is a joint project between the Forestry Commission, United Utilities and the National Trust, supported by Natural England which aims “to allow the evolution of Ennerdale as a wild valley for the benefit of people relying more on natural processes to shape its landscape and ecology.”
