Silloth Docks Solar Farm

As part of a planning application to install a solar farm at Silloth Docks Associated British Ports commissioned Rigby Jerram Ecological Consultants to undertake a Phase 1 Habitat Survey, desk study and assessment of potential ecological impacts of land adjacent to Silloth Docks on the Cumbrian coast.

The area concerned is largely herb-rich neutral grassland with areas of bramble scrub and lies close to a Site of Special Scientific Interest and the Solway Firth SAC and SPA.

We were able to advise on appropriate mitigation and management which would allow the retention of herb-rich neutral grassland under and around the solar panels once the panels were installed so that the existing ecological interest is retained and ensuring that there are no adverse impacts upon the neighbouring designated sites, allowing the planning application to proceed.
