Welcome to the Consultation on Proposals for Fencing on Murton Fell (Westmorland) common

The purpose of the fences is to exclude sheep from areas which are to be planted with trees and shrubs to create areas of patchy scrub for wintering black grouse.
The fences will be removed at the end of the proposed twenty year period, at which point the trees will have become established enough to withstand grazing. These areas are on open access land and there will be gates along the fences to allow the public access to the exclosures.
